I can't take any credit for this, I'm not the one who came up with it and I only learned about it fairly recently, but it is so brilliant that I had to share. I wear lots of glitter polishes and sometimes I like to glue rhinestones to my nails. It can be so hard to remove all the polish and glue and if glue is left on nails they look a right disaster. This method is also great for removing false nails and the glue residue left behind. Someone on the MUA nail board told me about this, I've been doing it ever since and everything comes off super easy!
Instructions after the jump.........
I suggest doing one hand at a time, because it's hard to do your second hand if the first is covered in foil! Soak a cotton pad in acetone based remover, lay it on top of the nail and wrap the whole nail in foil, keeping the cotton pad in place. Repeat for all the nails on that hand, leave on for a few minutes (it doesn't take long) and then, starting with the first nail you did, remove the foil and wipe the cotton pad accross the nail, removing all the polish/glue. Continue untill you've removed everything and then do the other hand. Voila, clean nails! Wash your hands thoroughly after doing this and use hand cream to replace the lost moisture. It does end up using more polish remover than usual, aswell as cotton pads and foil, but believe me, it is so worth it!
An extra tip that I've recently started doing. After I've done the first hand, I make sure I carefully remove the foil and once I'm done, I turn the cotton pads over and put them on the other hand, reusing the same pieces of foil I first used, that way there's less waste and it's slightly quicker than having to tear off more foil and apply more remover!
ETA: Please check out this link on Nihrida's blog http://nihrida.blogspot.com/2009/12/glitter-removal.html she explains it very well and with pictures. Whilst you're there, check out the rest of her blog which is a great read.
